Curriculum Assistant ("the Extension") is a browser extension designed to help educators work with curriculum management systems. This privacy policy explains how the Extension handles data.
Data Collection
The Curriculum Assistant Extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal user data. Specifically:
- No personal information collected: We do not collect your name, email address, browsing history, or any other personally identifiable information.
- No tracking: We do not use analytics, cookies, or any tracking mechanisms.
- No user accounts: The Extension does not require or create user accounts.
How the Extension Works
The Extension operates on curriculum management pages (specifically on collegeofthedesert.edu domains) to:
- Extract curriculum data displayed on the current page (program titles, course requirements, learning outcomes, etc.)
- Send this curriculum data to our API server to generate narrative documents and provide chat assistance
- Store user preferences (such as UI settings) locally in your browser using the browser's built-in storage API
Data Transmission
When you use the Extension's features:
- Curriculum data from the page you are viewing is sent to our server at curriculum.edumacation.net
- This data consists solely of educational curriculum information (course titles, descriptions, requirements, etc.)
- All data transmission is encrypted using HTTPS
Server-Side Logging
To improve the service and debug issues, our server logs:
- Chat conversations (your questions and the AI's responses)
- Summaries of curriculum data processed (field names, not full content)
- Tool invocations and errors
These logs are stored on our secure server and are used solely for service improvement and troubleshooting. Logs are retained for a limited period and are not shared with third parties.
Local Storage
The Extension uses your browser's local storage to save:
- UI preferences (e.g., sidebar position, theme settings)
- Recent chat history for convenience
This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to any server. You can clear this data at any time through your browser's extension settings.
Third-Party Services
The Extension does not integrate with or share data with any third-party services, advertisers, or analytics providers.
Permissions Explained
The Extension requests the following browser permissions:
- activeTab: Allows the Extension to interact with the curriculum page you are currently viewing.
- storage: Allows the Extension to save your preferences locally in your browser.
- Host permissions (collegeofthedesert.edu, curriculum.edumacation.net): Allows the Extension to read curriculum data from authorized educational sites and communicate with our API server.
Children's Privacy
The Extension is intended for use by educators and curriculum professionals. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
